Everything you need to know

📡
How to know when there are waves
Follow nazarewaves.com for updated forecasts. The WSL issues alerts 24-72h before the competition. Subscribe to alerts so you don't miss the event.
📍
Where to watch the waves
The best viewing point is the Nazaré Lighthouse (Sítio da Nazaré) — free access. Praia do Norte is below. Bring binoculars for surfing days.
🌡️
Water temperature
In winter (Nov-Mar) water temperature is around 14-16°C. 5/4mm wetsuit mandatory. Boots and gloves recommended in January and February.
🚗
How to get there
Nazaré has no direct airport connection by public transport. The best solution is private transfer, especially with surfboards. Avoid stress and get door‑to‑door service.
🏄
Surf for beginners
Nazaré is NOT for beginners. The giant waves are at Praia do Norte. To learn, go to Peniche (30 min) or Praia de São Martinho do Porto (next to Nazaré).
🍽️
Where to eat
Nazaré is famous for grilled fish and fish stew. Restaurante Mar Bravo (sea view) and A Tasca do Celso are references. Book in advance on weekends.
